MAGEC’s
Responsible Use of AI Policy

MAGEC has adopted the following policies surrounding the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in preparation for and during MAGEC conferences.

The increasing presence of AI has shifted how individuals process and share information. A growing body of scientific literature shows that the widespread use of AI can reduce critical thinking and encourage cognitive offloading (https://doi.org/10.1145/3706598.3713778).

Additionally, the use of Generative AI tools has been shown to hinder educational growth that can come from working through complex problems (https://doi.org/10.1145/3632620.3671116). Therefore, the use of Generative AI is incompatible with the goals of MAGEC. At its core, Model United Nations is rooted in student engagement with complex social and political relationships that require a willingness to directly engage with source material to promote academic skills and individual growth.

In recognition of those beliefs, MAGEC Conferences will prohibit  the use of any Generative AI tools in all processes associated with the conference, including, but not limited to:

  • Drafting materials in preparation of and/or at MAGEC conferences, such as: position papers, resolutions, amendments, speeches, etc., and

  • Citing Chat GPT and other Generative AI sources in any work product created for and/or at MAGEC conferences,

MAGEC considered the unauthorized use of AI to be a form of plagiarism. Any delegates found using AI to prepare for a MAGEC conference or during a MAGEC conference may risk being disqualified from consideration for awards and will be reported to their advisors.
