MAMUN

Model United Nations is program that has been around for over fifty years in colleges and high schools around the world.  The premise is this:  Students assume the roles of ambassadors to the United Nations and are provided with an agenda comprised of items also being debated by the real United Nations in New York.  Students, acting as delegates, research the issues from the agenda and study their assigned nation's point-of-view in order to accurately represent the country.

Upon arriving at a Model United Nations conference, delegates will meet in committee sessions to debate the issues from the agenda, draft resolutions, and ultimately arrive at the best solution the committee can devise.  During a conference, delegates are challenged to persuade, influence, compromise, and ultimately make peace with friends and strangers while working within a structured process of debate.

Credentials and Placards...

In order to maintain the integrity of the simulation, delegates are asked to abide by the following rules:

1.   Credentials, issued at registration, must be worn at all times during MAMUN meetings, MAMUN social functions, and in the hotel hallways.  If a Credential Badge is lost another one may be purchased at the Secretariat Office for $1.00.  Delegates will not be admitted to any meeting or social event without proper credentials.

2.   Placards, bearing the names of each delegation, are used in formal session in the following manners: to identify delegations wishing to speak, to vote when non-recorded votes are taken, and to identify delegations to the pages and staff.  Only delegates using official placards will be recognized by the chairperson in debate and during the voting procedure.  If a placard is lost a replacement may be purchased at the Secretariat Office for $1

3.   Each Council, Committee, and General Session at MAMUN has a uniquely colored placard.  This is done to ensure that only one delegate from each delegation is participating in debates and voting during a meeting.  Chairs will not recognize for speeches or voting any delegate using an improperly colored placard.  The following color chart will be used throughout MAMUN:

GENERAL ASSEMBLY-White

SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY COMMITTEE-Green
